Carrie

im definately not feeling winter.

theres nothing worse than leaving the house before sunrise and finishing work after sunset, and somebody tell me WHAT IS WITH ALL THIS WIND AND RAIN... does nothing for my hair . or my face... especially when my hair gets stuck to my lipgloss.

all of this just means there is no better excuse to curl up on the sofa with a HUGE bar of cadburys (comfort food) and a HUGE selection of chick flicks (comfort viewing)

im ashamed to admit (and cant believe im about to announce this so publicly) but i was late coming to the whole sex and the city pandamonium. infact i even made an SATC boycott despite all of my girls (and gays) telling me its my kinda thing.

Eventually I got round to it and in the words of Cheryl Cole its 'Ryyyte Op My Streeyt'

so now my thinking is on a cold wintery day what is more comforting than Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda?

And so this post is dedicated to my favourite fashion moments of SATC...

^ had to slip one in of my gorgeous friend Ellis - the REAL LIFE Charlotte in all aspects...personality, voice and style... photography and styling by yours truely ;)

Marilyn

I find it extremely irritating when I hear 'OMG I LOVE Marilyn Monroe!'

my reply is usually something along the lines of 'yeeeeaaaah, me to'

but most of the time I'm actually thinking are you sure its not just through mass amounts of nostalgia and constant advertising of her image on notepads, purses and countless other merchandising that make you think this?...

Now I wouldn't say I L.O.V.E Marilyn (I'm sorry okaaaaaay)

BUT

I do L.O.V.E this image of her by Avedon.

(why?) well because she was always photographed as Marilyn , ya know the bright bubbly blonde without a brain - huge smile and overt sexuality...

but here we just have norma jeane.

and i quite like that...because no one can keep up the act 24/7.

in demand

their are pro's and con's to being a fashion blogger...

great for getting your work seen and your thoughts about all things stylish aired but when you fall off the radar for a while the need for your return is in demand ! (well atleast by one person anyway ... YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE :P )

soo now im feeling the pressure of what to write about! and yet THERE IS SO MUCH I WANT TO WRITE ABOUT!!

so bare with me , I've been slack. I'm sorry.

Lets start at the very beginning... a very good place to start.

I took a trip to South America - I've been back over a month and haven't even shared with you what I found out! Gosh how awful of me !!

Ok a few facts : Havaiana's are my new summer crush - nothing says traveller like wearing a pair.

You got a pair?

ok well, did you get yours in Brazil home of the Havaiana? Doubtful. I WIN hahahaha

but seriously if you are from Brazil and your reading this then I'm going to sound pretty dorky.

its just quite exciting for us in the UK to have what we might think of as a flip flop sensation.

http://www.havaianas.com/ - go pick yourself a pair ready for next year ;)
I WANT THESE ONES NEXT TIME PLEASEEEEE^^^^^^^^^^

riiiight - ok well, ALSOOOO I was lucky enough to find myself in a cheeky little nightclub called Fosobox in a little well known city called Rio de Janeiro ...

NOTE: if you go to Rio try go here - you wont find this place in lonely planet let me tell you.

BUT WHAT TO WEAR WHAT TO WEAR?!!!!

obviously the most important decision of them all....

My advice - don't think that everyone in Rio is walking around in Haviana's ,shorts and T-Shirt because by night the young locals are all about Europian style. Especially London.

(Ironic when you turn up trying to look casual to blend in)

Yeah - totally glammed up , like out of a music video.

And now to end this post :

what better than my favourite shopping purchase...

the most beautiful leather ive ever witnessed... im going out on a limb here but better than italian leather ...ARGENTINE CARPINCHO LEATHER

So I bought it in bag form...with the matching wallet...and ofcourse I had to have the matching coin purse.

(er obviously ... cant have one without the other right? - its like Sophies Choice!)

Currently dont have photos of said bag, who does not yet even have a name incidently BUT here is what carpincho leather looks like - and it feels like suede! god its amazing. going back for more next year fo shooooo.

(oh also - argentina's economy collapsed a few years ago so everything is DIRT cheap but great quality - plane tickets kinda pricey but best place to shop...)

Tuesday 5 October 2010

I'm baaack

Its been a while , but I'm back on track with the blogging!

Everybody deserves a cheeky vacation and I have LOTS to tell you about fashion in the Southern Hemisphere...

but firstly , let me find my feet again after 6 weeks, ease me back in to fashion mode slooowly

ok , I'm here to say I have a massive girl crush on Hannah MacGibbon's spring/summer collection for Chloe.

(I'm wondering if shes ever going to experiment with colour but hey, maybe its just her thing!)

here is my ultimate FAAAAAAYV dress , its a bit alberta feretti actually but it is B.E.A.Utiful - I hope to god the highstreet pick up on this collection...

Hot off the press...

Heres a little story for you...

I finished my first year of uni in May and a long stretch of lazy summer days were ahead of me , which for most people is heaven but for me

is hell.

I've picked up bad bad habbits since those precious school summer holidays of doing absolutely nothing , NOTHING with my time and before I know it its September all over again... *sigh*
4 months of doing NOTHING?? (capitals required)

no no no no no no

-so I made it my mission to gain as much experience as possible working with other photographers/ models etc (amongst all the city hopping) and its worked out pretty schweeet.

So yesterday I had my very first 100 % DIYtotally in charge (dun dun DUUUUUUNNNN) shoot where I casted my models , took a chance on a photographer I'd never worked with , styled it up , slicked hair down , smudged some eyes etc etc

and the photos?

well they are my favourite work from the whole summer...

Maybe I was subconciously saving my best until last?

Here goes:

Models: Mark Air - Veronika Ashlee Jones - Jade Lyon

All Photographs Copyright Dan Tidbury.

When in ...oh, Paris?

Being the little jetsetter I like to think I am, this weekend I made a calling for Paris city of Luuuuuuurrrve...

minus the sight seeing and alfresco dining you would expect - there was an moment of being mistaken for a moulin rouge worker (if you catch my drift) - Maybe Paris isn't ready for black patent boots yet - (or maybe they're just a little too well known in Montremare...)

An incident regarding a KFC bargain bucket , which for a fashion blog is probably not something I should be mentioning and to top it off a crafty cheeky little shopping trip including a crafty cheeky little purchase from Marc Jacobs (YUMMMMMMMMMMMMM - MAJOR FASHION HAPPINESS -that deserved capitals)

The Eiffel Tower glowing in a haze of sparkles and the all round feeling of romance means I wouldn't mind heading back over to the land of Chanel sometime in the near future...

heres a few snaps that sum up the experience...

Phil Howard

Yesterday myself and Veronika were lucky enough to work with photographer Phil Howard -

There is no need to describe Phil's work , it speaks for itself BUT

Sharp, colour, contrast, dynamic, inspired by Testino I knew we were going to get on...

Just full on love it really.

Wednesday 21 July 2010

oh. hi douglas booth.

already a big fan of the Booth,

i found the new Burberry campaigns shot by Mario Testino very very yummo.

mmmmmmm

extra credit to Burberry for standing tall on keeping London in the spotlight as a great fashion capital - the whole campaign features British models, actors, musicians only. ONLY.

(and also keeno to test out the new Burberry beauty range... check out the website, its had a makeover, all interactive and stuff - www.uk.burberry.com/fcp/content/beauty/content)

Sunday 18 July 2010

I couldnt be bothered with a good title so its just... Grunge.

So I'm collaborating with Rob and Sarah on a new shoot and we're going for a grunge-esk look.

The biker boots, crop tops and ripped jeans have slowly been creeping they're way mainstream and now its time to go 90's Nirvana heaven with plaid, ankle skimming bodycon dresses with dark dark lips and pale pale skin.

A few months back I managed to purchase myself the journals of Kurt Cobain and have been inspired ever since to go grunge.

Today I blagged myself quite a few bargains at the boot sales (Jades influence ofcourse) - silver chain belts, boots, cut off denims and a whole load of baggy Tee's

if you would like to donate me anything else to add to the collection nudgenugdge wink wink hint hint...

ok so you think Taylor Momsen is one of the key movers and shakers on the grunge front?

WRONG.

shes made it commercial, fashionable again if you like.

but what about the people who were actually old enough to appreciate the 90's like Courtney Love and Alison Mossheart?

(my main style influences of the 90's went by the names of sporty, scary, baby, posh and ginger so I'm one to talk hey but even so my point is valid)

Mary Kate Olsen is my particular grunge girl crush and so my picture space is being taken up by her, enjoy...

Friday 16 July 2010

ice. queen. hippy. chic

a couple of snaps from Wednesdays shoot with Veronika and David Greensmith...

with the transitional season change fast approaching it was time to look at incorporating the latest trends with next seasons looks
soooooooo white floaty cottons/silks mixed with loose boho hair (a la summer summer tiiime) were clashed with next seasons make up trend which i like to call 'ice queen' seen at Viktor & Rolf, Preen and Giles.
(seriously, this is one of the make up trends to be reppin big time okay)
so yeah, this is how it went...

Tuesday 13 July 2010

watch things on VCR with me and talk about big love...

i think we're supserstars.
you say you think we are the best thing...

I could carry on typing XX lyrics forever but I guess I should stop and tell you of another tale, this time a tale of fashion music.

which results in very big BIG fashion hapiness may I add.

Last night not one person at Roundhouse could have walked away feeling dissapointed with the nothing less than amazing performace AND all round atmosphere of iTunes festival's latest installement.

Two bands.

The XX and Wild Beasts.

I've been scouring the world wide web to find the ultimate video of performances but to no availability (as of yet) . If you don't know the XX very well I suggest you type them into your search engine and see the rave reviews they've had in less than a year...to quote but a few

'The xx have made a debut that sounds utterly flawless; it’s the kind of album that bands take years to create.' Delusions of Adequacy
'It’s strange that such a traditional set-up (drums, bass, keys, guitars, voices) has resulted in one of 2009’s most unique debuts.' NME

Ending with a bass-tastic version of 'Stars' would have been good enough but then came the glittering confetti.

And I do like if not love a bit of a glitter showering.

You can tell their music and style is heavily influnced by a strong London background and I predict trend setters as this band heads up the commercial ladder of fame and fortune.

i left my heart in Munich.

It all started with a conversation between me and Matt that went a little like this

'I'm bored. I need to go somewhere.'
'So. Do it.'
'Okay...pick somewhere in Europe. Anywhere.'
'errr...Munich.'
'Okay. I'm going to Munich.'
And thats what I did. I went to Munich because Matt told me to.

Beer, Bravarians and Beautiful bone structure would sum it up quite well in a sentance.

I could go on, so maybe when you see me about ask me ,all I know is...

I have to go back.

I know I've quoted being fickle with my fascinations in previous posts but this is not the case in this situation.

Oktoberfest anyone?
One thing I did discover was at 'Haus de Kunst' - Michael Schmidt was showing an exhibition of gritty black and white very contrasty photography , 80's underground nostalgia and urban decay mixed with alot of nudity was the order of the day. Since then I've made him my latest favourite.

You can check out some of his more commercial / editorial work right here ...

http://www.mesfoto.com/
hey how great would it be to do a A/W shoot here (Marienplatz)...
...you just have to imagine it sort of dark and grungy...see it?

cool.
